I support our local businesses and recognize just how important it is to support policies that will allow for businesses to grow and flourish. I recognize that there is a balance between full-time residents, tourists, and college students that contribute to our local economy. It is essential that we work with local businesses to ensure that we are doing everything we can to support our economy.
I strongly believe in the public's right to access our beautiful coast. I want to especially thank former Town Council President, Jesse Pugh, and the Town Council under his leadership that approved the creation of the Coastal Access Improvement Committee. Identifying and recognizing these coastal access points is necessary.
I want to thank the Affordable Housing Committee for all the hard work and efforts that have gone into addressing this issue. I believe we should be working closely with this Committee and with our neighboring towns to collaborate on solutions. We can learn from our neighbors and other districts around the state to come up with viable recommendations that can help to offset this growing problem.
I proudly served as Vice Chair of the Narragansett School Committee and worked to elevate greater representation for all students in our community. I strongly support our schools and our town library. They are essential to drawing in families and building our community around them. We need to continue to engage with students, parents, and teachers and work with the School Committee to ensure that our schools are supported with what they need to foster a safe environment to learn.
I support the many parks and recreational services that our town provides in the form of public playgrounds, public parks, and our town beach. I will support policies that help to preserve these services as I grew up enjoying them myself. I learned to play basketball at Boon Street, soccer at Christofaro Park, and baseball at Sprague Park. I treasure these resources as they continue to support families and children who want to come in to enjoy our town and make lifelong memories.
Narragansett seniors are a vital part of our community. They bring a wealth of knowledge and wisdom and I believe wholeheartedly that we can (and should) be doing a lot more to engage with them and listen to them. They have experience that is valuable for us to learn from, and I believe we can be a stronger community by listening and engaging with our seniors more.
We are surrounded by a variety of beautiful habitats and wildlife. Our sea levels are rising. We must think about the costs that it will take to preserve what is left of our beautiful town and surrounding environment before it is gone. It is important that decisions that are made for this town are well thought out and the long-term effect of our decisions is taken into consideration.
I believe in transparency and listening to the community in which I hope to represent. Your feedback is essential, and your voices are the heartbeat of the Narragansett community.
There is a vast amount of history in Galilee and the fishing industry is at the very heart and soul of it. I recognize the sacrifices that these incredible workers make to support our fishing industry and local businesses. They are essential to supporting the economies of our town and our state. I propose looking into ways in which we can better support these hard workers and develop longer term solutions of how we can revamp Galilee.
